As you may or may not have noticed I have the last couple of sundays written a gaming news article, which I named Gaming Dispatch. I decided to not do so today, mainly because I am not pleased with the way said articles turned out. Instead I wanted to do a little update on my project/blog/website, whatever you want to call it. The reason why I don’t like Gaming Dispatch in its current form is that I felt it got a bit messy and that reciting what other media outlets have written is not all that fun. I do not want to throw the series away however, rather to change and revamp it. How will I change it you might ask. Firstly I want to cover less stuff but in more detail, and not just gather information from what others have said, but to discuss various topics myself. Take for example the Steam Direct story, here I would have liked to discuss what good and what bad could come of it, I think that would be more fun both to read and to write. Welcome to Gaming Dispatch. Another week of gaming news has passed and I am here to bring you the most important stories. There was not a whole lot of noteworthy happenings but what is included are things like Steam Greenlight shutting down, more Nintendo Switch details, and more effects of the Trump travel ban. Steam Greenlight In this week's biggest story, Valve has announced that they are shutting down Steam Greenlight in the Spring this year. After its inception in 2012 the community voting system has made it possible for hundreds of indie developers to get their game on the Steam store, on the other hand it has also contributed to the massive influx of games released on the service during the last couple of years. Back in 2014 Gabe Newell said that he wanted to Greenlight system gone and now that time has come, it will not just outright be gone however, it will be replaced by another system called Steam Direct. Welcome back to another week of Gaming Dispatch, the weekly series where I bring you the most important news of the week. In this issue we have among other things an update to the Oculus vs. Zenimax lawsuit, more Nintendo Switch updates, Game devs reacting to the Trump muslim ban, and the release of Fire Emblem Heroes. Oculus vs. Zenimax On February the 1st the the jury stated that Zenimax is to receive $500 million. Oculus itself is to pay $300 million in total, of which $200 million for breaking the non-disclosure agreement and $50 million for copyright infringement. Oculus and founder Palmer Luckey is each to $50 million each because of false designation, and last, the former Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe has to pay $150 million for the same reason. The lawsuit didn’t go entirely in Zenimax’s favor howver as the jury also stated that Oculus did not steal any trade secrets from Zenimax. Welcome to Gaming Dispatch, the weekly series where I bring you the most important news from the world of gaming. On this week's platter we have, among other things, Project Scorpio, Pillars of Eternity II, Nintendo Switch, Oculus lawsuit, and a rollercoaster through the Death Star. Pillars of Eternity 2 Obsidian Entertainment announced their sequel to the the Kickstarter success Pillars of Eternity , bearing the name Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire . As the last one it is being crowdfunded, albeit not on Kickstarter this time around. The new campaign is hosted on the “Fig platform” where backers can choose to either pledge in a familiar way as on Kickstarter, or they can invest in the game, potentially getting returns if the game is doing well. It would be an understatement to say that the campaign is going well as it reached its goal of 1.1 million dollars in under 24 hours.
