I like One Finger Death Punch. Not to say that it does not have any flaws, but simply that it is fun to play. With its fast paced action and excellent feedback I found it hard to quit the game, I just wanted to play one more level, then one more, and so on. Even to sometimes redo the level to get that platinum medal, which quickly became a bit too difficult.
It is a bit funny how the game works. When you are doing good, you get rewarded with a more difficult game, if this is a reward or not you can decide for yourself. What it does is to speed up the game. You start at a 100%, and you can go all the way up to 200%, so when you are doing good the speed increases, and if you get hit, or dies the speed decreases. Even though it may not be that much of a reward that the games gets more difficult, it quite satisfying when you get close to 200%. Considering the awful feeling when you die, and go from, say 190% to maybe 130%, the speed increase may be a reward. What i like about this is that it makes the game more dynamic, since it changes according to how you play, you will always get a challenge, but at the same time you will be able to complete it.
One Finger Death Punch is an easy game, easy to learn that is. You only use two buttons to play, left to punch left, and right to punch right. Sounds easy doesn’t it? It is in the beginning, but as you go on the levels get harder. Suddenly there are what seems like an endless horde of enemies, coming at you from both sides, going faster and faster, carrying weapons that you can pick up, throw at them, or maybe they throw at you. There are a surprising amount of stuff happening, considering the use of only two buttons. One great thing the game focuses on is that you can not spam, for the most part at least. If you just spam, you will end up missing, and probably die.
As said earlier, One Finger Death Punch do have some flaws. My biggest complaint is the slow motion, and zoom effect which happens quite often. While i can see the appeal to have this effect, i found it a tad annoying. It can provide a more satisfying playtime by slowing down game, and zooming in on the target you just obliterated with a club or whatever. What annoyed me is that an enemy that is coming towards you may suddenly slow down, leading to you missing the target. However you could see this is another way to make the game harder, while at the same time make it a bit more fun. There are game modes where these effects has been removed, while I may find these more enjoyable at times, I suspect they will get boring if played more.
Another complaint is the boss fights. More often than not they are just one enemy, that you have to beat up multiple times. This makes the boss fights one of the most boring game modes in One Finger Death Punch. One small sidenote is the music, while good, the soundtrack is not so big, and gets repetitive over time.
One Finger Death Punch is a great game, you cannot not enjoy playing it. I almost have no complaints, and few i have are no big things, so there is no other thing i can do than to recommend it.
