Gaming Dispatch - June #2

Bilde
Welcome to back to Gaming Dispatch, where I tell you about some of the most interesting stuff that has happened in gaming the past weeks (weeks), at least what I find interesting. This issue will unfortunately be a bit short as a result of not a lack of time to keep up with everything that has happened, but regardless here is what you can expect in the following article. E3 happened a couple of weeks ago where some games were shown, Steam summer sale kicked off with over 18 000 items on sale, and some great Starcraft tournaments happened! So without further ado, let’s get to it. In the aftermath of E3 we are left with some good, some bad, and definitely some cringe (not looking at you EA). The press conferences that I bothered to watch was EA, Microsoft, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Sony, and Devolver whatever that was. So let’s start with EA, or rather get that out of the way. Let me tell you this much… they had sports, and more sports, another shitty Need for Speed ...

Gaming Dispatch Resurgence - The last couple of months

Bilde
Gaming Dispatch is finally back again, with a logo even. Today we shall take a look at some news that has been released over the last couple of months. Only the news that I find particularly interesting though as it would be impossible to look at everything that has been happening. So let's get to it! Starcraft Remastered was announced, which I am really looking forward to as Starcraft 2 has been one of my favorite games for several years now. The remastered of the classic from 1998 was announced back on the 26th of March this year and is to be released some time during this summer, they haven’t said anything more specific than that yet. It’s actually thanks to this announcement that I got back into Starcraft II after almost a two year break. During the same announcement they also stated that the original version will be patched to 1.18 and then be available for free for anyone to download and play, which it indeed has been, something which also made me try o...

A rant about the traditional media

Bilde
As you may or may not have noticed there has been some recent incidents between various Youtubers and the traditional media, been this way from the start of the year really. There was the whole “Pewdiepie is a nazi” thing, a while after it was the incident with Jontron, and yesterday something happened that made me rather upset. I will not talk about neither Pewdiepie nor Jontron, so if you want to know about that you are at the wrong place. Yesterday on the 2nd of April a Youtuber with the name Joerg Sprave, more commonly known as The Slingshot Channel, uploaded a video where he talked about a recent strike he got on his channel and got a video removed for being “A violation of YouTube’s policy on harmful or dangerous content”. This all happened after the UK media outlet Daily Mail published an article about Joerg and two of his videos. The article in question is linked at the bottom of this post if you would like to read it, it is an archived link so that you do not actually ...

ICEY review - you don't know Jack

Bilde
Introduction I have now played a not too old game for a change. A game I first heard about through The Co-optional Podcast, one that I got quite intrigued by when they described it. Totalbiscuit described the game as a result of mixing a brawler with The Stanley Parable , a great brawler at that. After I have played through the game and gotten all the achievements, I have to say that I absolutely agree with said description and that such a mix made for a rather enjoyable experience. About/developer ICEY is developed by the Chinese developer Shanghai FantaBlade Network Technology Co., Ltd. and published by X.D. Network inc. and was released 17th of November 2016 on steam. This means that it only got about three months old before I did a review for it, that’s a new record! ICEY is marketing itself to be a 2D-sidescrolling action game in addition to being a META game in disguise Intro/beginning The game sets off with a small cutscene of the character you will be playin...

Nostalgia Highway - Shaun White Snowboarding

Bilde
Today we take a gentle cruise down Nostalgia Highway to have a look at Shaun White Snowboarding. Since this is the first issue of Nostalgia Highway I thought I might explain what it is. The premise of the series is for me to pick a game that I remember playing years ago, explain what I remember of it, and then see if they are actually any good. I might have had terrible taste when I was younger, so there is no guarantee that the titles I write about is any good. Wouldn’t this be fun though? Re-discovering old games that are hopefully as good as I remember them (but probably not). I at least think so and therefore want to share the exploration and thoughts of my childhood games. Shaun White Snowboarding may not sound like a particularly old title as it was released in late 2008. Time flies however, and being almost 9 years since release it is by no means a new game, which resulted in nostalgia kicking in when I remembered the game again. Thinking back I got reminded of th...
